Welcome Back to the High School!

by Troy White on Aug. 3, 2021

It is a pleasure to write this welcome back letter as we start the 2021–2022 school year in a much more normal fashion. I want to thank everyone personally for allowing me to continue serving the Gale-Ettrick- Trempealeau community as the high school principal. Last year brought many lessons, but those of perseverance, resiliency, working together, and appreciation for what we have in this school and community are the lessons that we can carry forward with us. I am motivated and encouraged by all the hard work by everyone in preparing our facilities. We also welcome new staff members Anthony Kading (Band), Christine Sherry (English), Kathryn Bentz ( English), Scott Hovell (Phy. Ed.), Ian Anderson (Phy. Ed.), and John Nelson (Agriculture) to our Red Hawk family.

To all, we are excited to have all our students learning in person this fall. To allow our staff to focus on our in person learners, the district has contracted Educere for any student that requires virtual learning. This option will be for a semester at minimum and be your service for all attendance, participation, grades and support.

To our students, I ask that you reflect on what you’ve gained versus lost in the past year to help you focus on your goals and strive for personal excellence. Know that we are here to support and encourage you as you explore different possibilities and grow as learners. I challenge each of you to contribute as we maintain and improve the long tradition of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau’s excellence in both curricular and co-curricular activities.

To our parents, it is through your patience and support that helped us survive and will allow us to continue to make a significant difference in the lives of our students. As we strive to continue Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School standing as an exemplary high school, our partnership becomes that much more critical. My hope is that you will find us approachable and easy to speak to and that you won't hesitate to contact us if you ever have questions, concerns, or you just want to share good news about our school or your child. To further our connection, we hope everyone will join the “Friday Night Lights” email list by sending your current email to [email protected] requesting to become a member or follow us at smore.com/gnkr9- red-hawk-pride.

We will kick off the 2021-2022 school year on Thursday, August 26th and Friday, August 27th. However, we have some important items requiring the attention of both parents and students before that date.

  1. Registration – We will be holding two separate registration days on August 9th from 1 pm–7 pm and August 16th from 8 am–1 pm to allow you to visit the building, be issued your iPad, school lock/locker, complete forms if you need computer access, take school pictures. Picture brochures will be available at registration or can be downloaded from the District website.
  2. “Link Crew” Orientation – Freshmen students will meet at school on Wednesday, August 18th, from 9:15 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. This program is to help make the transition from middle school to high school a positive one. Lunch will be served and charged to your account.
  3. Parent Orientation Any parent can attend an orientation meeting in the high school library on August 24th from 5:00 pm – 6:00 p.m. to discuss our handbook, answer questions and meet your student’s counselor.
  4. Forms – All forms will be signed digitally and can be accesses on the district website at getschools.org/ district. Those unable to access the digital forms will be provided access during registration. Please read, sign and submit all before the first day of school.

It is a privilege to lead the learning community of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School. The foundation of our future accomplishments will be found in the power of our combined efforts and the strength of our synergy. We wish you the best of luck this year. GO RED HAWKS!
