Unit 3 - Measuring Circles - In this unit, students extend their knowledge of circles and geometric measurement, applying their knowledge of proportional relationships to the study of circles. They extend their grade 6 work with perimeters of polygons to circumferences of circles, and recognize that the circumference of a circle is proportional to its diameter, with constant of proportionality . They encounter informal derivations of the relationship between area, circumference, and radius.

Unit 4 - Proportional Relationships and Percentages (Begins Nov. 11th) - In this unit, students deepen their understanding of ratios, scale factors, unit rates (also called constants of proportionality), and proportional relationships, using them to solve multi-step problems that are set in a wide variety of contexts that involve fractions and percentages.

  • Resources available in the beyond the classroom section.

Geography

Welcome to 7th Grade World Geography!

November & December: As we begin to enter the holiday season we will be working with a very relevant topic: Human Geography! In this unit, our students will be learning about the fundamentals of culture as well as human populations. We will take time to explore some of our own cultural traditions as well as various cultural traits from around the world. We will also do a case study of the Amish to gain a better understanding of their culture.

While exploring human populations we will look at population trends around the world in both developed and developing countries. We will also be highlighting our population studies with a Claim, Evidence, Reasoning activity centered around China's former One Child Policy. As the temperatures drop outside, things will really be heating up in Geography class!

Essential Question for this unit: Which geographic concepts are most useful for understanding the world's people?

Outside Activities:

Looking for something to do outside of class?  Students have a number of activities on Schoology that focus on our social studies vocabulary.  You can also watch/read the news with your student and discuss things that are going on in the world.

Science
