In the Academic and Career Planning (ACP) class, 7th grade students explore potential careers that match their interests and strengths. Using a website called Xello, they research important details like job responsibilities, required education, and salary expectations. After gathering information, students create a presentation to share what they’ve learned. This project helps them start thinking more seriously about their goals after high school.

A group of 8th grade WEB leaders recently took a trip to Ettrick Elementary to help out during the school's Environmental Day. The leaders spent time with younger students reading nature-themed stories, going for a short hike, and helping them make seed bombs to plant wildflowers. It was a fun and meaningful way for the WEB crew to show leadership and support younger learners while learning more about the environment together.

Last Tuesday, 8th grade students traveled to the Genoa Fish Hatchery to take a tour with fishery biologists to study our local ecosystems and investigate Lichen and see the conservation efforts for fish in the Midwest. In addition, students took a bus tour that focused on the foundation of our local area and conflicts with local Native American tribes. They stopped to talk about the impact of George Gale on our community, Native American legacy in our area, and discussed the Blackhawk War around Genoa at battle sites.

Today is the last day for Reading Without Walls challenge. Here is the last round of students who earned a free book for participating (reading five different books).

Congrats to this week's Caught Being Good Winners. Way to go middle school students!

This year, the middle school is recognizing outstanding student effort, behavior and ability by giving out Student of the Term awards. Each term, teachers nominate different students, discuss what they did ,and then select from each grade level. Students then get a chance to call home to tell their family and enjoy a family celebration breakfast. Way to go students.

8th grade science is currently in their Waves & Technology Information unit. Recently, students used spring toys (Slinkys) to model different types of waves: longitudinal, transverse, traveling and standing. The modeling allowed students to measure frequency, wavelength, amplitude and speed. Students will apply this exploration moving forward in the unit.

Students in our Tech-ed 2 class are doing lots of hands-on learning. They are making their own design for a boat and 3-D printing the propellors to drive it. They will take the boats to Arctic Springs to see how well they did.

The work of our student actors and musicians was displayed last weekend, along with their Oliver Jr.'s performances. We are so proud of this group and how much they accomplished in such a short timeframe. A big shout-out to Seth Kieser, Sue Byom, and Sarah Ashland for helping lead this talented crew.

Step into the imagination of our young artists! Our current display case features a vibrant collection of student artwork created through a variety of media and techniques. From bold mixed-media pieces to thoughtful drawings and monochromatic paintings, each work tells a story of exploration, experimentation, and personal expression.
These pieces reflect the creative process students engage in every day—thinking like artists, making choices, taking risks, and developing their ideas with care and intention. We’re proud to showcase their unique voices and celebrate the incredible talent growing in our art room!

6th Graders are completing an investigation to show that fields exist between objects exerting forces on each other even though the objects are not in contact. They have created boats that are powered only by the force of magnets. Designing the boats has been fun!

This month, several of our middle school students proudly represented our school at the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) State Leadership Conference. They joined over 700 students from across the state in a weekend filled with competitions, workshops, and leadership activities.
The FCCLA State Leadership Conference is an incredible opportunity for students to build confidence, strengthen teamwork skills, and explore careers in family and consumer sciences. Through their participation, our students demonstrated dedication, creativity, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
We’re so proud of their hard work and leadership—way to go!

On March 19th and 20th, Mrs. Fawcett and Mrs. Torud attended a “Teaching the Holocaust Workshop” at Viterbo University. They had the pleasure of listening to many different people from around the world who have a profound and wide understanding of the historic event. One of their favorite parts of the workshop was hearing from a Holocaust survivor, Peter Fiegl. The experience of hearing first-hand stories is becoming increasingly precious, as not many survivors are still alive today. These two teachers are coming away from the Holocaust workshop with new activities and lessons to do with students to deepen their understanding of The Holocaust.

Congrats to our Caught Being Good Winners. We had an extra drawing this month for students that allowed them to put their tickets in for a gift card to Groovy Grid, Ettrick Express and River Stop. Way to go middle school students!

The G-E-T Math Team competed in the Wisconsin Math Council's State Mathematics Contest. The competition is made up of individual and team portions where students must rely on their mathematical understanding to solve complex problems. Congratulations on a wonderful performance!
